This story began when, after several different musical adventures, brothers Graham and Gabriel Burkum teamed up with childhood friend Michael Childers and started turning little heartbreak jingles into full fledged anthems of life, death, and everything inbetween. They called themselves "Skypiper." After the momentous realization that the volume of their work had increased from twos and threes to elevens and twelves, they decided to do something about it. Joined in blood and heart with record producer Jason "Uncle" Burkum, into the studio they went. After months of hard work, evolution, and revelation, Skypiper had a record to call its own. "lay low and pretty" seemed a fitting title, although it was to change their lives forever. "We must pledge to each other that no matter the struggle, no matter the storm, we must band together through thick and thin!" exclaimed Michael. Then, joined by the sweet heart of a young dutch boy named Kyle Christensen, they agreed that it just felt right. Six drummers later, Kyle's dearest-cousin's-husband (a.w. gilbert) arrived, and the four became five. And five was good. And the five are Skypiper.

“Lay low and pretty and don’t make a sound," advises Skypiper frontman Graham Burkum at the close of the heart-melting ditty "Lay Low and Pretty," the title track for the folk outfit’s full-length debut. This sentiment seems the group’s official credo, as they’ve kept mostly anonymous in the local scene, yet pumping out songs so rich in pathos they could bring Omaha’s most callous bastards to their knees. In celebration of the release, a string arrangement will accompany the boys through the entirety of the album, certainly forcing the audience to weep into their tallboys, which is great because Old Style isn’t nearly watery enough.  -Tim Greenup, The Reader

Omaha band Skypiper crafts beautiful melodies over tender harmonies, with instrumentation that blew me away in the studio. One of the bands that have raised the bar in the Omaha music scene.  -Wayne Brekke, Worlds Of Wayne Podcast
